Futurepop - the name of the musical direction, which appeared in the second half of the 90s. This is a mixture of electro-industrial with synth-pop and elements of club electronic music.
Electro-industrial (also called electro (German Elektro (not to be confused with the sub-genre of dance music)) is a musical genre that arose in the 1980s mainly in Canada and the Benelux countries as a result of the mutual influence of EBM and other post-industrial genres and developed in the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s. In addition to the directness of the musical structures inherited from EBM, and the methods of constructing compositions taken from classical industrial, electro-industrial is characterized by the presence of deep, multi-layered and false sound. The pioneers in this genre are considered to be the Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly groups. In the 1990s, the directions of the dark electro and agrotec branched off from the genre. The fan base of this genre is tightly connected with the cyber-ready subculture.
After the EBM movement faded away in the early 1990s, electro-industrial increased its popularity on the international club scene. In contrast to the frankly synthetic EBM sound, electro-industrial bands use sharper drums and distorted, distorted, or even artificial vocals. Unlike industrial rock and industrial metal, electro-industrial bands use relatively little guitar sound (if there is one at all). The genre is characterized by lyrics with dystopic motifs.
The term Futurepop was coined by Ronan Harris from VNV Nation and Stephan Groth from Apoptygma Berzerk when they tried to describe the sound of their groups.
As in other areas of electronic music, in Futurepop you can hear mostly electronic musical instruments - a synthesizer, a drum machine, a sequencer, a sampler. The genre is peculiar to "pure", raw vocals, carrying a melodic function. The rest of the instruments, including instruments that traditionally carry melodic or harmonic functions, in the futurepop predominantly bear a rhythmic function. In the overwhelming majority of cases, Futurepop is played in the size of 4/4, the composition is usually based on a fixed rhythmic structure, gradually complemented by new elements. You can often hear the usual division of the entry, couplets, choruses, breeches, losses.
The world's biggest events, including futurepop music, include Infest, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Arvika Festival, M’era Luna and Amphi festivals
