Electroclash

Electroclash
Electroclash is a subgenre of synthpop.Elektroclash - style of electronic music, which absorbed the elements of a new wave, punk and dance electronics. On the one hand, electroclash is a parody of early synth-pop and electronic music in general of the 1980s, on the other hand, it is a rethinking of electronic music as part of new trends and experiments.

History of style

Elektroclash exploits the musical traditions of the 1980s using synthesizers, often early analog, drum machines. The style is characterized by retro sound, musical minimalism, combined with visual images of the 1970-1980s, vintage electro, disco and punk aesthetics. There is no definite “corporate” sound (such as goa or eurodance), rather we can talk about a certain mood. The range of style is very wide - from retro in the style of "Abba" (Ladytron) to minimal techno (Legowelt). It often uses elements of eight-bit and tracker music, although this is not necessary. Prototypes of electroklash aesthetics can be seen in the cult film "Liquid Sky". Suicide is considered one of the founders of the electric clash.

Elektroclash gained popularity in the late 1990s in New York and Detroit. The official considered the birthplace of the club "Lax" in Williamsburg, where a party hosted by Larry Tee, the man who coined the word 'electroclash' and owns the rights to it.

The origins of the name are in the junctions of influences experienced by a number of European and American groups working in this vein. Lyrics mostly borrow punk themes, often aggressive and more focused on emotions than on technique.

Somewhere around 2002, a new musical phenomenon, called Electroclash, spread throughout the world. Its epicenter is New York.

Why is it in New York, the music suddenly bombshell and finally appeared, people identifying themselves with it? Moreover - a huge number of own groups appeared, performing it?

There are many different opinions on this score.

The most realistic explanation seems to me that something is in the air, similar ideas come at the same time to different heads. This is how, for example, the participants of the Berlin project Tok Tok vs. Soffy O.

That they are also electroclash, they learned during their concert in London. They themselves believed that they were a techno duet who got a singer.

In this music, all the stylistic features of the electroclash are perfectly audible, in general, it seems that the atypical electroclash does not exist.

The melody of two notes is played with one finger, and in fact a sequencer. Bass is also synthetic. The rhythm is not complicated, it twitches a little, you can see in this if you like lightweight new wave. No jazz, no soul, no vowels tightened, no black music. Pure synthetics. The emphasis on the voice, the singer sings not so much as she speaks, detachedly and coldly, showing off a little and ironically, as it were, over the listener. This is definitely pop.

Project porn.darsteller, album "romance lp". Everything here is typical and predictable, the concept is met with irony, the label’s website contains golden words “my neighbor is not my brother ... we are not united ... we are alone on this damned land ...”

Everything is made in black, red and white colors.Did the dance industry, which all 90s unsuccessfully fought for survival, finally became something fashionable and cool?

Electroclash - it's way out to the surface of the accumulated irritation of electronic music, which has long ceased not like to give up the ass, but at least a little bit wind. People are sick and tired of the hackneyed formats of dance music, that is, house, techno, trance, drum'n'bass.

The electroclash extremely important and retro-futuristic theme. 20 years ago, electronic music was perceived as strikingly new, alien, artificial, eternal. And today this feeling of the future is returning - mechanically, cold, artificially derived. This is basically machine music. And the general mood of the songs corresponds to her: numbness, alienation, neurosis, isolation.

In the electroklash world, everything is not real, everything is exaggerated, everything is a mask, a pose, a pretense, work for the public. In one of the fashionable songs, it says: "We are fake / You will not break our hearts / We are fake machines / Who pretend to live on television screens."

Extremely typical for the New York electro-clash scene and focus on European music - British, German and French. Synty Pop was a typically European affair. Where Kraftwerk went from is not a secret either. The only exception is Suicide, the vast majority of today's idols are British: Boy George, Gary Newman, Human
League, Heaven 17, New Order, Euritmics. And what today is called the electric clash, also came to the US from Europe.

There are already detailed guides for idiots who have decided to move along the The Great Electroclash Swindle trail!

Electroclash

For example, the guide for the idiot states that the bass synthesizer should be one octave, the melodies consist of two notes, the bits are exclusively disco, especially the cool producers extract the whistles and clicks from the old Commodore 64 computer and you have a cult status.

Here is one of the tips: “Immediately announce in public that you are a homosexual or at least a bisexual (remember that this tactic served David Bowie’s amazing service in the 1970s).”

Another consideration: "Vocoder not only provides fashionable singing of robots, but also allows you to hide that you are not able to sing at all." The list of the most frequently used and therefore unconditionally recommended words in lyrics is also given, such as: neon, silver screen, cocaine, porn, auto, sex, glass glasses, telephone, android, plastic, euro, romance and robots, robots.
