The music is mostly instrumental, the beginning of the surf is Dick Dale’s original guitar style, from which it all began. New Romantics (ending)

New Romantics

Music style

Music sources "new romantics" were electronic minimalism, glem- and krautrock. At the same time (unlike the glam stars of the early 70s), neo-romanticists practically did not use guitars, replacing them with synthesizers; The drum machines took the place of the live drums. However, in the compositions of many well-known electropop groups, real drummers also played: Richard James Burgess (Landscape), Warren Cann (Ultravox), Rusty Egan (Visage).

The music of the “new romantics” was mainly electropop (or synthpop) and was, as a rule, danceable. Along with the legacy of Bowie and Roxy Music, disco, funk and rhythm-and-blues were actively used by the “new romantics” as musical sources.

New Romantics

New Romantics
The New Romantics is a musical direction that emerged in the UK in the early 1980s and (as part of a new wave) that had a significant impact on the development of the English pop and rock scene. “New Romantics” emerged as an alternative to punk culture that was ascetic in many of its manifestations and not only didn’t carry social protest, but also (according to Virgin Encyclopedia of 80’s Music) “sang glamor, bright styles and hedonism”.

The rise of the movement coincided with the early flowering of the music video culture. The latter served as a catalyst for the process, since it was precisely in the calculation of the video clips that “new romantics” created incredible hairstyles (A Flock of Seagulls) and fancy robes (Spandau Ballet), actively using bright cosmetics.

Electroclash

Electroclash
Electroclash is a subgenre of synthpop.Elektroclash - style of electronic music, which absorbed the elements of a new wave, punk and dance electronics. On the one hand, electroclash is a parody of early synth-pop and electronic music in general of the 1980s, on the other hand, it is a rethinking of electronic music as part of new trends and experiments.

History of style

Elektroclash exploits the musical traditions of the 1980s using synthesizers, often early analog, drum machines. The style is characterized by retro sound, musical minimalism, combined with visual images of the 1970-1980s, vintage electro, disco and punk aesthetics. There is no definite “corporate” sound (such as goa or eurodance), rather we can talk about a certain mood. The range of style is very wide - from retro in the style of "Abba" (Ladytron) to minimal techno (Legowelt). It often uses elements of eight-bit and tracker music, although this is not necessary. Prototypes of electroklash aesthetics can be seen in the cult film "Liquid Sky". Suicide is considered one of the founders of the electric clash.

Synthpop

Sinti-pop

Sinti-pop (also known as techno-pop) is a genre of electronic music that became famous in the 1980s, in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument. The genre originated in Japan and the United Kingdom during the post-punk era and as part of a new wave of the late 1970s and until the mid-1980s.

The pioneers of synth-pop were the Japanese group Yellow Magic Orchestra and the British group Ultravox and The Human League, the latter widely using monophonic synthesizers to create music with a simple and strict sound. After breaking through Gary Newman and his Tubeway Army band in the UK singles chart, a large number of bands achieved success in the early 1980s, including Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Japan and Depeche Mode in the UK, while in Japan The success of Yellow Magic Orchestra opened the way for such synthpop groups like P-Model, Plastics, Hikashu. The development of low-cost polyphonic synthesizers, the emergence of the MIDI standard and the use of drum machines has led to more commercial and affordable synth-pop sound. The merger with the new romantics movement, along with the growth of MTV, led to the success of a large number of British synthpop groups, including Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet, in the United States.
