Crunkcore
Crunkcore (also called crunk punk, screamo-crunk and scrunk) is a musical genre that combines crane with elements of screaming. The American edition of The Phoenix gave the following definition to the genre: “Crunkcore is a combination of East Coast minimalist hip-hop, techno-breakdown, simple drum machine rhythms, hysterical vocals and personal poetics.” In another article, the magazine called crunkcore "a mixture of Panic! at the disco and electronic music. The subculture that forms around the genre is called “Scene Kids” (English Scene Kids).

Critics call the main performers of this genre - Brokencyde, 3OH! 3, Millionaires, Breathe Carolina, I Set My Friends on Fire, Family Force, Kesha and MC ParaMaKo.



History and musical characteristics

The first band performing crunkcore were Brokencyde, they also popularized the term «Scene kids» and «Crunk punk». In their work, they pushed away from the traditional screaming, adding dance rhythms and emo pop ballads with a splash of rap. In subsequent releases, they went into an even greater mix of genre with rap and electronic music. Other groups continued this trend, diluting the genre with electro-pop.

Crunkcore been heavily criticized by the American media, especially music. So, Guardian music journalist John McDonnell, while generally ironic over the mix of emo and hip-hop, called the founder of BrokenCyde "the worst thing that happened to music." According to him, already watching their clips is enough to get past this group. Metal Edge magazine criticized the performance crunkcore groups on the Vans Warped Tour, including calling BrokenCyde «fucking horrendous». Other publications gave the genre such marks as “insulting traditional punk” and “disney-pop”.
