Pop-rock

pop music
Pop-rock (Pop N 'Rock) - a genre of music that combines elements of pop music and rock music.

Stylistics of the genre

The songs are characterized by a simple structure, catchy melodies, repetition of musical phrases (from the pop), but using electric guitars, drums and energetic melody (from the rock) as the main instruments. The severity can be different, from practically instrumental pop to very “heavy” compositions, but diluted with pop melodies. As a result, many groups have to justify that they are playing rock, while others are the opposite, that they do not play pop-rock.

History

The term “pop rock” was first used to describe the early Beatles hits and their followers, such as The Grass Roots, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, The Buckinghams. Surf rock is sometimes included in the concept of pop rock; this use is an anachronism, since surf music and rock music were considered different musical genres in the 1960s.

Pop rock set the stage for soft rock in the 1970s. Although in the 1970s and 1980s there were several groups that fit the definition of pop rock, the genre continued as heavy ballads of hard rock and heavy metal bands, along with songs of a faster pace than soft rock bands.

pop music

The last wave of pop-rock originated in the mid-1990s with the works of Alanis Morissett and Melissa Etheridge. In recent years, there has been a revival of the genre, while hard rock is losing popularity compared to rap, R&B and hip-hop. A feature of some modern pop-rock songs is the alternation of soft verses and loud choruses, which arose under the influence of alternative rock. Modern pop-rock artists include OneRepublic, The All-American Rejects, Kelly Clarkson, P. nk, Roxette, PMMP, The Rasmus, Melanie C, The Veronicas, Tokio Hotel, Avril Lavigne, Gregory Lemarchal, LaFee, Adam Lambert, Stan Bush, One Direction, Shakira, Gwen Stefani, 5 Seconds of Summer, DNCE.

Among Asian countries, pop-rock is the most popular and widespread in Japan. This is due to the style of Japanese pop singers to use distorted guitars in their work, or even a complete set of classic rock instruments. Pop-rock is also common among Japan's rock scenes, particularly among Osyare Kay groups such as An Cafe, Heidi, Aicle, Zoro, etc. But Japanese bands are more rigid in their sound from Western pop-rock due to elements of alternative rock. popular in Japan.

There are also many Chinese pop rock artists such as Beyond, Five Hundred & Chine Blue, F.I.R, Wu Yue Tian.
